Amman – During her meeting with the students of Jordan Media Institute in Amman, activist Ahed Tamimi said that the ongoing fight of the Palestinian people against the occupation is done to achieve freedom, not to evoke feelings of sympathy, regardless of the amount of abuse and restrictions inflected upon them by the occupation.

In the meeting that was attended by Princess Rym Ali, Tamimi added that the settlers are victims of a Zionist ideology that controls them, whereas the Palestinian people are prejudice-free and open-minded.

The young activist was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces after slapping an Israeli soldier infront of her house in Nabi Saleh village, near the city of Ramallah. Her mother, Nariman Tamimi, documented the incident with a video that went viral on social media.

Tamimi said that she takes it upon herself to spread the word about the need for supporting the Palestinian prisoners in their struggle for freedom and national unity and "to highlight the sufferings they endure due to the occupation denying them their basic rights to food, water and education, in addition to the prisons’ bad conditions that include poor ventilation and extreme temperatures.”

She also explained that she was subjected to various psychological and physical stress as well as denied her basic rights, whether during the time of her investigation, which lasted around 16 days, or after being transferred to prison. “But I asserted my right to remain silent and refused to sign any documents” she added.

After spending eight months behind bars, Tamimi was released in July 2018 to become a symbol of the Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation.
