Dr. Maarouf Bakhit, former Prime Minister and Senator, gave the students of the Journalism Master’s Programme a short lecture on national and regional matters. Dr Bakhit expressed his belief that the United Stated is unable and unwilling to achieve a just peace in the region and described the American foreign policy in the Middle East, and specifically towards the Palestinian issue, as illegal and unethical.
Dr Bakhit also spoke about the increasing regional roles of Turkey and Iran, underlining their different policies and strategies. He also described the Arab world as being incapacitated or paralyzed and added that the situation in the Arab World today is pretty much similar to what it was at the end of the Abbasids era.
