The research was part of the “Media and Culture for Development in the Southern Mediterranean Region – MedMedia” project activities funded by the EU. It aimed to identify the status of media and journalism education systems in nine Arab countries: Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The study covered 120 educational institutions in these countries.
It sought to create a quantitative and qualitative analysis of media and journalism education systems in the Middle East and North Africa region in order to steer reform policies that enable academic institutions to provide media outlets with skilled journalists and media practitioners who meet labor market needs. This will ultimately improve the media environment and enable the industry, along with other factors, to positively contribute to democratic transformation, enhance freedom of expression, guarantee pluralism and respect diversity.
