The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) organized the second training workshop titled “An Introduction to Strategic Communication and Media Relations” in cooperation with the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ). This workshop came as part of the project “Expanding Public Dialogue on Human Rights Issues through Media”, which was launched by the Canadian organization “Journalists for Human Rights” (JHR) in partnership with JMI and local partners.
The 3-day workshop was attended by nine participants from local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that deal with human rights issues, and aimed to introduce participants to the concepts of communication, its channels and tools in addition to highlighting the important role of media in activating communication between CSOs and the public. It also discussed the challenges that face the relationship between media and CSOs and how to address them.
The workshop introduced a program called “Al Maydan”, which was developed within the project to activate citizens’ participation in reporting human rights issues. The program includes an electronic database for information, smart phones and an SMS application.
