This unique opportunity for the students was made possible during the recording of Arab and English versions of the program at the UNHCR’s Refugee Registration Center in Amman on 18 and 19 March 2016. The program included high profile panels of leaders and opinion formers who discussed Syria's refugee crisis and its impact on Jordan.

Several JMI students were involved in all aspects of the production.

The program’s Director, Chris Nelson said with the JMI students showed efficiency, enthusiasm and passion to make the best out of the experience by working as members of the BBC’s production team, and learning from the experiences of the episodes’ moderators and producers during both days of the production. Nelson commended the students’ comprehensive knowledge of technical and vision mixing skills.

The Arabic debate, which was moderated by BBC Arabic Presenter, Nour Eddine Zorgui, hosted Jordan’s ministers of labor and health as well as the director of strategies at UNHCR. The English debate was moderated by BBC Presenter Zeinab Badawi and hosted Jordan’s minister of planning and international cooperation, the Lebanese minister of education and higher education, the German ambassador to Jordan, the UNHCR’s representative to Jordan and a representative of the Syrian opposition. The audience included around 150 Syrian and Iraqi refugees in Jordan as well as Jordanian citizens.

The students highly appreciated the opportunity to be part of this highly professional production and to learn from internationally renowned broadcast journalists.
