Project: Documenting Media Coverage of the Great Arab Revolt in the American Press

Objectives:

The project aimed to collect and classify American journalist Lowell Thomas’ images of the Great Arab Revolt currently at the Marist College Archives & Special Collections in the U.S., articles on the revolt published in the American press coverage of the Great Arab Revolt.

Project Description:

Sorting the Marist College archives into the following categories: The Great Arab Revolt’s military forces and operations; the revolt’s leaders and prominent figures; land and people; miscellaneous; and the Lowell Thomas collection. Also included were Arabic and English summaries of the major articles published by the American press about the Great Arab Revolt.

Project Outputs:

  1. Printing approximately 400 images of various sizes from the Marist College archives and approximately 100 articles published by the American press.
  2. Displaying the images and articles at “The World Wakes Up to the Great Arab Revolt” exhibition. The exhibition was organized in the capital Amman, Maan and Mafraq.
  3. Creating and designing the book “The World Wakes Up to the Great Arab Revolt – The Lowell Thomas and American Press Collection” with over 100 of the images displayed at the exhibition and 20 articles from the American press archives.
