JMI Hosts the Google Digital Journalism Tools Training

Amman 21 April 2013<br /> <br /> Today marks the beginning of a three day Google tools training workshop entitled &ldquo;Digital Tools for Newsgathering and Reporting across Cultures&rdquo; at Jordan Media Institute (JMI).<br /> <br /> The training is held in joint cooperation between Google and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in association with The World Bank Institute (WBI), hosted by the Jordan Media Institute (JMI).<br /> <br /> In her opening remarks HRH Princess Rym Ali, JMI Founder, Said &ldquo;Humanism remains at the core of Journalism education, even when we&rsquo;re talking about digital media. Change is not only about defending freedoms but also about building a truly democratic and diverse culture.&rdquo;<br /> <br /> Maha Abouelenein and Daniel Sieberg from Google, Stephanie Durand from UNAOC and Craig Hammer from WBI, also thanked all those who contributed in organizing this training and welcomed the participants.<br /> <br /> This training includes a group of editors, journalists and bloggers from the MENA region for the first two days. Participating countries include Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, and Libya, while the third day&rsquo;s participants will include JMI&rsquo;s Master&rsquo;s students in Journalism and New Media.<br /> <br /> Participants will be trained by well renowned experts from Google, UNAOC, World Bank, AlArabia, Missouri school of Journalism, and JMI, to acquire knowledge and tools that will strengthen their ability to communicate across different cultures, so that innovative mindsets can emerge, strengthening their skills in online journalism, digital tools, newsgathering and reporting across cultures.<br /> <br /> Hosting this workshop is in line with JMI&rsquo;s constant efforts in developing Arab journalists&rsquo; skills to become enlightened professional world class journalists in today&rsquo;s fast paced digital media environment.
