JMI Hosts Two Conferences on Broadcast Media Issues

<div dir="rtl">&nbsp;</div> April 12, 2015<br /> <br /> The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) is hosting two conferences in Amman next week and during the first week of May that address youth television programming and policies, transformations and challenges in the television and radio industries.<br /> <br /> The conference on April 20-21 will discuss ways to develop TV programs that reflect the concerns and interests of youth aged 16-25. The event, which will see the launch of &ldquo;Youth on Screen&rdquo; initiative, is held in cooperation with the EU-funded MedMedia project for reforming the media sector in the southern Mediterranean region. &nbsp;<br /> <br /> Experts from Jordan and at least six Arab and European countries will take part in the sessions and examine current trends in the TV industry.<br /> <br /> They will also look at the challenges of harnessing social media networks and improving audience engagement. The two-day meeting will also address media consumption habits of young people and the provision of youth programs by public service media.<br /> <br /> Organizers expect the sessions to help generate ideas for youth programs which reflect the political, social and economic realities of the region.<br /> <br /> They also hope to demonstrate that compelling television which embraces public service values can play a key role in improving youth participation in shaping their future.<br /> <br /> Participants also include civil society representatives from the region as well as the EU, UNESCO and EBU.<br /> <br /> In May, JMI will host a conference entitled, Radio and Television Broadcasting: Policies, Transformations, Challenges. The meeting will take place on May 5-6 in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of Journalism. Sessions tackle themes related to legislation, ethical and professional challenges, and investment in television as well as the state of public service broadcasting in Jordan and the Arab world. Discussions will also focus on multi-media and digital newsrooms and new trends in the industry.<br /> <br /> Several experts, academics and broadcast media journalists from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Qatar, UAE, Norway and Canada will take part in the two-day meeting in Amman.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;
