Media Spokespeople Training at Jordan Media Institute Wraps Up

The Jordan Media Institute concluded a training program which was organized for the official spokesperson of ministries and governmental institutions.

The training program which was held for five days included practical and theoretical sessions which shed the light on various issues and topics related to the field of participants in a bid to enable them communicate and cooperate with the press in a smooth and professional way.

Dr. Najah Abdullah, Dean of JMI said "the program aims to empower the participants with the knowledge and information they need to enable them communicate with the press smoothly, thus delivering the exact and right information easily."

The relationship of the official spokesperson with the press, the public and government official, was one of the key issues which the training focused on, in addition to trainings about gathering information, the ethics of journalism and the main basics of documenting information sources practically and theoretically. The training program which is financed by the European Union enabled participants to have broader idea about the real challenges which face journalism (newspapers, television, broadcasting and e-journalism).

"The program is a continuation for a number of trainings which the institute has held for official spokespeople, press and photographers who work in the newspapers and governmental organizations, in addition to journalism students from public and private universities, the training program goes along with the vision and mission of JMI in cooperating with various organizations to contribute in the development of media and empowering the press with new skills and knowledge", added Abdullah.

The training program hosted Dr.Sakher Khasawneh who shared information with the participants about media legislation and ethics of journalism, the cultural and the media counselor at the Royal Film Commission and former official spokesperson of the Red Cross committee in Iraq Nada Doumani talked about the daily tasks of the press office and how to respond to requests.

Mr. Basel Al Ekour the founder partner of Ammoun news website talked about e-journalism, he also reviewed with the participants the official websites of their organizations and discussed the means of further developing these websites.

Hewa Othman, journalist and Country Director for War & Peace Reporting -Iraq supervised the training program.
